Tatsumeeko, the Discord-hosted massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Tatsu.gg, has successfully raised $7.5 million in a seed round.

Announced on Thursday, the raise was co-led by Delphi Ventures, Bitkraft Ventures and DeFiance Capital, the Singapore-based company. Tatsumeeko was also funded by Binance Labs, Animoca Brands, Dialectic and GuildFi. With the help of these backers from crypto-native enterprises, gaming venture firms and prominent gaming guilds, this provides a strong layer of support in terms of capital, technology infrastructure, and community/marketing for the future.

Launched in 2016 as a community project, Tatsu.gg has quickly become a full-fledged, full-time undertaking for its team in 2019 up to now. Tatsu.gg provides software and bots which help to gamify elements of social platforms such as Discord. According to Tatsu.gg, 60 million users across 1.4 million Discord servers are using their services.

Tatsu.gg was rebranded as Tatsumeeko ahead of its move to a web3 gaming model. The release date for the game, which will use both the Ethereum and Solana blockchain, has not been confirmed.

Tatsumeeko is a Metaverse MMORPG, offering a combination of Casual, Adventure, and MMO gameplay through automatic PvE and PvP combat, along with other various social activities. In the fantasy world of Ielia, rendered entirely through gorgeous pixel art, users can choose between eight different character types in a multi-class system (the Squire, the Warrior, the Cleric, the Acolyte, the Recruit, the Magician, and the Thief); the ability to freely switch between character types allows players to counter a multitude of different combat scenarios as they see fit.

While the deeper lore of Tatsumeeko makes it stand out amongst the other blockchain games available on the market, the diverse and social gameplay elements are truly what makes this Metaverse MMORPG really shine. Split into three main categories, Tatsumeeko’s in-game activities are: Adventure (Main Story quests, Side Story quests, Exploration), Combat – which occurs automatically based on the player’s stats (Battles, Dungeons, Dimensional Invasions, PvP ladder tournaments), and Social/Side activities (Character customizations, Mini-games, Resource gathering and crafting, Achievements, Exploration logs, Monster cards).

Tatsumeeko’s vision is building a platform that helps communities thrive — where people can make new friends and form new bonds; in a space where most are hesitant to tread. To realize this vision, Tatsumeeko facilitates the development of platforms where communities and members will be immersed into a modern fantasy setting filled with colorful characters, beautiful locations, endless activities and the tales of many adventures.

With the help of their already existing user base from Tatsu.gg, Tatsumeko has successfully integrated themselves into extremely popular Discord communities, such as PewDiePie, Moistcr1tikal, Davie504 and fan clubs of Ariana Grande and the Hololive Fan Server, to name a few.

Until now, it has already released one non-fungible token (NFT) collection for the platform and will begin land sales in July. The company also ran a successful proof of concept in May, which reached 60,000 monthly active users and 4.5 million in traded items.

Tatsumeeko believes gamifying Discord servers helps communities retain users. And furthermore, the Discord community members there will get to strongly bond over their platform experience together.

“There’s not much to do on a Discord server. People host events like karaoke and movie nights, but there has yet to be a tighter integration of features within the Discord ecosystem. Lots of Discord communities are competing to retain users, competing to grow and competing for a share of visibility. That’s where gamification really comes in.”

Tatsumeeko will be available on Discord through iOS, Android & PC; there is also a plan to release the game on other platforms such as Telegram, WeChat and QQ.
