Cronos unveiled “Cronos Play” with mission to enhance the quality of P2E games

Cronos is joining hands with ChainSafe Gaming to found Cronos Play, proposing Software Development Kits (SDKs) that have a huge potential to improve the quality of Play-to-Earn (P2E) games.

Built on Cosmos SDK technology, Cronos is the first Ethereum-compatible blockchain network that is open-source and permissionless on the Layer 1 chain. The blockchain network aims to massively scale the DeFi, GameFi, and overall Web3 user communities by providing builders with the ability to rapidly port apps and crypto assets from other chains while enjoying low transaction fees, high throughput, and quick finality.

Cronos has been used by many different development teams to launch their own projects. These projects include: Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs) like VVS Finance; NFT marketplaces like Cronos Chimp Club; and, of course, games as well, like CryptoShoujo.

ChainSafe Gaming is powered by ChainSafe Systems, which is under the direct management of Unity Enterprise, a real-time 3D platform for large studios. Several game studios have partnered with ChainSafe Gaming to get their projects started. Some of these games include: Galactic Pioneers (a blockchain, space action role-playing game), Tranquility City (a virtual city, with many multiplayer aspects), and Arsenal (a 3D, multiplayer first-person shooter).

Cronos and ChainSafe Gaming have recently formed an alliance to realize their shared mission to revolutionize NFT games and promote the adoption of web3. They have recognized two major problems with mainstream P2E gaming infrastructures and propose “Cronos Play” as a viable solution.

Firstly, they both witness the fact that blockchain gaming primarily occurs through a web browser or select mobile apps, creating some barriers to entry. Secondly, Cronos and ChainSafe Gaming also admit the brutal fact that developers and builders have a steep learning curve in incorporating play-to-earn mechanics. More often than not, it involves the extensive usage of blockchain coding knowledge, including learning a new programming language. Such barriers to entry make this option less favorable to mainstream game publishers.

What is Cronos Play?

Cronos Play is powered by Cronos Chain and ChainSafe Gaming. It provides a “Cronos Play Gaming SDK” that integrates with the Cronos chain, aiming to bring Unity games into the Cronos ecosystem.

The Cronos Play Gaming SDK opens up the opportunity to connect the gaming world with Cronos! It allows users to integrate any gaming platform with Cronos and to create a seamless experience for their players. For example, users can:

Connect and interact with Cronos networks;

Provide in-game NFTs functionality;

Authenticate by using different crypto wallets;

..and many more to come.

Cronos Play currently supports the Unity game engine as a starting point, and it will be expanded in the future to support other game engines.

What are the advantages of the Cronos Play SDK?

The Cronos Play SDK is compatible with C++, which many current and future game builders rely on. Therefore, game developers using the Cronos Play SDK do not need to learn a new language to incorporate play-to-earn mechanics into their games. Currently, Cronos Play is integrating with the ChainSafe Gaming SDK web3.unity. Unity game developers can already straightforwardly integrate P2E features with their games.

The Cronos Play SDK is a modular set of developer tools and services. There is support for multiple popular gaming engines, including Unreal Engine 5 and the Unity Engine. In theory, Cronos Play could bring play-to-earn mechanics to Fortnite, Pokémon Go, or Call of Duty: Mobile, if the developers choose to investigate these possibilities.
