AB de Villiers, the legendary South African Cricketer, has teamed up with the blockchain gaming developer Myria to launch a mobile play-and-earn (P&E) game.

About the handshake of AB de Villiers & Myria Gaming Studio

The game, which has yet to be named, will be exclusively available on iOS and Android mobile platforms. The team behind the project said its aim is to onboard millions of cricket fans to blockchain gaming and the crypto world. The worldwide cricket fan base is estimated to be about 2.5 billion people. This is a promising project which could lead to the mass adoption of crypto.

Abraham Benjamin de Villiers (commonly shortened to AB de Villiers), is a retired South African international cricketer. A three-time holder of ICC ODI Player of the Year during his 15-year career and being called one of the most innovative and destructive batsmen in the modern era, he has been regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time.

Leveraging cricket fans’ love and understanding of the sport, AB de Villiers and Myria Gaming Studio intend to build a community around it through highly engaging features in the game.

Commenting on this new collaborative initiative, AB de Villiers said: “It’s always been about cricket. It’s always been about entertaining the crowds. I’m constantly looking for ways to change the game, and building my blockchain-enabled cricket game on the Myria platform is the next step for me.”

Myria is a comprehensive blockchain game development platform, launched in 2021 to create a gateway to the recent introduction of Web3 gaming to the world. The startup also self-develops a wide range of free-to-play AAA titles in an effort to help bring the best blockchain games to life. Some examples of some games being developed in-house are: Metalrush, a platform battle royal game to be released on the Web, iOS and Android, where multiple players are pitted against each other to rush through an obstacle course until one player remains, and Starstrike Legends, a First-Person Shooter being developed on Mac and PC platforms which has gamers choose a unique hero character to use their special abilities to dominate the battlefield.

Myria’s full-stack game developer kit is used by partner studios to build their games in the Myria ecosystem. One such partner studio, Leapblock Studio, is using Myria’s dev kits to make Moonville Farms, a play-and-earn tycoon farming simulator, with recurring competitive tournaments.

Brendan Duhamel, Myria’s Head of Blockchain, emphasized the essence of the collaborative project with AB de Villiers in the new era of gaming. He mentioned that cricket and crypto have the ability to bring together two of the most passionate communities for experiential entertainment. Given the large number of passionate cricket fans, the potential for blockchain and crypto to go mainstream and be adopted en masse is reachable.

In Brendan Duhamel’s own words, he stated, adding: “Cricket icon and innovator, AB de Villiers, leads the cricket industry to move the enthusiasm people have for cricket into the digital realm. AB has placed his trust in Myria’s platform to bring his blockchain-enabled cricket game to life and together we’ll usher in a future of empowered gamers and communities.”

The game, a collaborative product of AB de Villiers and Myria Gaming Studio, will leverage other blockchain gaming features like NFTs to add fun, ensuring that players are not only drawn to it for the sake of earning.

The words from founders

“The main thing is that there is no compromise,” AB de Villiers said when asked to speak about the game. “My cricket game will be fun and exciting, just like a match on the field, but it will also be equitable and empower digital asset ownership. Myria shares my commitment and together we will bring new cricket experiences to my fans.”

The game is estimated to be available for download from the Apple App and Google Play Stores in Q2 2023.
