Yield Guild Games rushes to aid its scholars during the downturn

With the impending release of the Axie Origin edition, those good old days of Axie Infinity gamers are long gone. Yield Guild Games (YGG), a Filipino P2E organization whose scholars mostly play Axie Infinity to earn extra money, announced that it is giving scholars more in-game resources as Axie users decline.

What is Yield Guild Games?

Yield Guild Games (YGG) is a Play-to-Earn gaming guild which combines players to earn through blockchain-based economies. In the metaverse, they position themselves as the world-settler.

In March 2018, Axie Infinity was made available. Two years later, when there was record-high unemployment during the COVID-19 pandemic-related government-mandated lockdowns, it became a phenomenon in the Philippines. According to a World Bank assessment, rural communities were particularly heavily impacted, with many losing not just their source of income and employment but also their food supply.

A lot of individuals relied on the revenue from this game. The way that scholars [new players who rent in-game items from other players or guilds] play Axie Infinity is different from the way that Axies are owed. Axie Infinity creates opportunities for everyone in the Philippines to play and make money.

Guilds like YGG serve as entry points for players who lack the necessary resources to begin playing. People with little to no beginning capital started using Web3 technologies to make money as GameFi projects—”game” plus “finance”—started to carve out their own niche in the cryptocurrency market.

The struggling in the downturn

However, Yield Guild Games is struggling during the downturn and especially to adapt with changes coming from the most popular P2E game – Axie Infinity.

Axie Infinity announced the release of Axie Origin which caused lots of cautiousness amongst YGG Axie scholars. Axie Infinity developers also notified its players that due to a recent attack on the blockchain network Ronin, which led to the theft of over $600 Million USD worth of bitcoin, it was anticipated that the release of Axie Origin would be delayed.

It was anticipated that Axie Infinity would delay the Origin’s release as a result of a significant security compromise on the Ronin network (an Ethereum-linked sidechain created exclusively for Axie Infinity is called Ronin), which was disclosed on March 30, 2022.

A moderator of the official Axie Infinity Discord server named “Pixie” stated that the game’s release would probably be delayed until the problem is fixed. But now that Sky Mavis has confirmed that Axie Origin will be released on April 7th, 2022, gamers may relax.

Axie guilds and players are hoping to hang on until the release of Origin, the new game from Axie, which is presently in beta. Axie scholars from Yield Guild Games are hoping that the Origin improvement will bring back their beloved game.

The CEO of YGG’s subDAO in Latin America, OlaGG, Martin Blaquier, expressed optimism for the future and his own ideas.

“Once it (Axie Origin version) is published worldwide and has added earnings capacity, we will be seeing more people breeding and participating in Origin. There are also a lot of developments ahead for Axie Infinity.”

Actions from Yield Guild Games to aid its scholars

A squad of three Axies is often assigned to a YGG scholar, giving them 20 energy each day to utilize in arena matches to gain SLP. They are now reassigning those resources to their students who have continued to play the game despite the decline. This enables scholars to consume up to 40 or 60 energy per day, which is two or three times their daily cap, increasing their potential for SLP earnings.

The guild also said that players no longer needed to meet minimal performance standards.

Axie is simply one game in the portfolio of OlaGG, a YGG subDAO, according to Martin Blaquier, who also stated that they must diversify into multiple NFT games and expand the source of income to its scholars.
